In Tanzania same sex acts are criminal offences punishable with life imprisonment. In Brunei sexual activity between men is liable to capital punishment, with de facto penalties of imprisonment and whipping applied; sex between women is punishable by caning or imprisonment. Indonesia's northwestern province of Aceh has a sharia-based anti-homosexuality law that punishes anyone caught having gay sex with 100 lashes. In Saudi Arabia both male and female same-sex sexual activity is illegal. LGBT Tunisians face both legal and social discrimination. Reports of family rejection, violence in public spaces, violence within families and suicides are common because of these restrictions. In Iraq, LGBT individuals are subject to widespread discrimination. They have no legal protections against discrimination and are frequently victims of vigilante justice and honour killings. This flag flies as a mark of defiance for the global Queer community against all who seek to oppress.
