Acrylic and cupronickel on paper

33 x 33

Once upon a time there was a woman whose face was imprinted on tiny circular pieces of metal. The pieces were used as money and the woman was called a Queen. The penny here is the smallest unit of monetary metal in the United Kingdom. Pre-1992 pennies weigh 3.56g and are made up of approximately 3.45g copper, 0.09g zinc and 0.02g tin. Post 1992 pennies are made of copper plated steel in undefined amounts. Theoretically the pre-1992 penny is worth more as scrap metal than its actual monetary denomination. This penny is covered in red and black marking the Queen’s and the coin’s obsolescence.
